Last weekend

Yes!  I know I haven't blogged in a little while, but life has been getting in the way lately.

Last Saturday, I actually worked in the Lounge during the morning/afternoon shift.  

Cathy usually handles that shift, but she had a wedding to attend in California, so....  she put me "on" because it was a donor "event" weekend. 

I got my first glimpse into what the Summer season will be like - whew!  It was busy, but I managed!  Didn't do too well as far as marking down everything because I didn't want people to wait too long, so I figured out I have to slow down a little and mark as I go. 

We have to account for everything that is purchased or given away and total the deposit at the end of the shift. 

Give away, you ask?  Our donors that purchase a membership every year, $600.00 and above get free beverages and that includes wine, beer and proseco, but you have to account for everything poured. 

When I got home I did a little gardening before and after dinner.

Sunday - whew!  Did a little more garden maintenance and then Pete and I headed to a desperately needed Costco run.  We also stopped at Lowes to check out arbors for the side yard. 

We had Annie with us because I had to do an evaluation for 2 dogs in Talent.  Sooo, after the Medford run we went to the vineyard where the dogs have been for 7 months when their owner dropped them off because she was travelling across the country.  She left them with her brother and his wife and she's not coming back; going to live on a sailboat instead.  The wife is definitely not a pet person and Pete and I could tell this was her idea, a total biotch from the moment we arrived.

The ironic part of all this................we met the owner and the dogs last Summer at Emigrant Lake when we had taken Annie for a swim!

Annie played and swam a long while with Jazz (f) and Jomo (m) and Pete and I chatted with the owner who was originally from Alaska. 

She remembered me talking about the rescue so that's how she got in touch with the rescue!

All in all a busy weekend!



another quilt

This is the 2nd quilt I took to the retreat to work on. 

I put aside my bedroom quilt to finish this one, since it will take no time to finish.

I finished piecing the borders, now I have all the pieces ready to sew together and make it a real quilt.

I bought this kit a few years ago from my favorite shop in Medford, which is no longer around. 

It is all flannel.  The only fabric I have left to buy is the backing.  

This quilt is going to someone special...........

I attended my first dress rehearsal was today.

  I've had an opportunity since I moved over to the Development offices, but I hadn't see any yet.

I thought it would be great to, sorry to say, get it out of the way.  

"Medea, Macbeth, Cinderella" officially opens on Saturday. 

This play is our Artistic Director's "baby."  

It's a huge undertaking!  It is actually 3 plays on stage at the same time, yes, I said 3. 

How does that happen?  Not very easily.  

I went in with a somewhat open mind, but left with a "why"?  

The first half was long, but I actually liked it.  The costumes were beautiful and I was really more tuned into the "Cinderella" play more than the other 2.  Unfortunately, I was not up on the story of Medea; just knew that it was a Greek myth and she killed her two sons.  

Long story short, after the intermission, it changed dramatically, costumes/wigs were gone and everyone was dressed in black.  I'm sure there was a reason, but apparently it went over my head!  

All in all, I'm glad I went to see it and don't foresee going to see it again.  Although, everyone, including the actors say to go see it around July after all the changes are made.

I do have to say that the gal that plays Cinderella, is great!  As she was singing I could imagine her in "My Fair Lady" next year, I think she'd be perfect!

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring has sprung!!!!!

My poor muscari is confused!   They shouldn't be sprouting until May!  

The pictured daffies are ones that I planted under Shadow's tree; the tree he loved to sit under. 

Everything seems to be doing well.

Pete and I spent the day outside yesterday (with Annie, of course) and worked our butts off!

Got a lot accomplished, but still so much more to do.

Tomorrow I plan on getting to the nursery and getting a few more plants, but I still need to do a lot of fertilizing and cleaning up.  I'm planning on taking some photos and taking them with me, since some of what I'm doing is not that great.  I need HELP!



Happy Easter

Happy Easter everyone!

Rocky went back to Eugene to start school on Monday, April 2nd.   Since this is the first Easter without my baby :( , we celebrated last weekend.  I cooked a big meal on Saturday, 3/31, made big breakfasts on both Saturday and Sunday and Rocky got his Easter basket.  

Loaded it with all his favs.  He loves Dove chocolate, he loves Cadbury chocolates, (since he went to England and went to Cadbury) and he loves anything caramel!

My New Work Space

Finally took my camera in and took a photo of my new space!  

I do love it here now.  So much easier than being in another building and having to trek back and forth.

The window you see is Stephany's space, right behind me.  

Above me and to the left a little (if I'm sitting in that chair facing the monitor) is a huge skylight.  

It's so nice that our department has it's "own" newly remodeled space.  

I have to admit there are quite a few people that are jealous of us.

The artwork above my desk area are images from previous plays; snippets of costumes blown up and mounted.  We have a few scattered around and in offices here in Development.  

Pete finally dropped by a couple of weeks ago and could not stop talking about how nice it was and how much better it was.

I like it!

Sewing/Guest Room

After the UFO Retreat I decided I needed a wall to place my blocks.  They had a couple set up and what a difference when you want to lay out your quilt!  On Sunday after the retreat I went straight to Joann's and bought some "Warm and Natural."

My sewing station.  I have lots of plans on what I want, but for now this will suffice.  

Still have a bed, so all guests are welcome! 

 My future plans include converting this bed into a "Murphy" bed.  I have the info on where to get the hardware, don't want to attack this one yet, until I get my sewing station, etc., done.

My closet is off limits since Mom has commandeered that one!

Old Friend

Hello old friend...........

I bought this piece in the early 80's in Vegas at a second hand furniture store.  I went back a couple of years after and the store was gone.

I stripped it, finished it and I originally stained it a light oak.  

It has been through a couple of transformations since I first finished it.

  It's been in different rooms always serving a purpose, always there when I needed it

It's last transformation it was painted green.

It has been sitting in the garage since we moved here, I didn't have a space for it, but did not want to get rid of it, knowing that it would once again make an appearance.

 It's been holding old books and old frames. 

It was time for it to serve a purpose again and so it has been moved into my new sewing room/guest room.  

I'm planning on distressing a little more, and possibly spray painting the hardware.  Not sure if I want to go with bronze or silver, leaning towards the later.

Last year, I updated the hardware on my bedroom furniture by spray painting it bronze, it really came out great!

I'll let you know what I decide.......

Changes

Moving things around, changes coming soon!

Mom

Mom flew back to Henderson, Thursday evening. 

 She has decided she wants to be on her own, so we're letting her go. As much as she loves us, she misses her life there and her friends.   

  She's been with us since the beginning of December and in reality I was ready for her to leave, sorry to say. It's hard having another adult live with you, someone that's been on their own and has their own way of doing things, which isn't, necessarily the way you do things. 

I will admit I am a big pain in the ----!  I do like order in my house.  I like everything picked up.  I like my counters cleaned off.  The first thing I do in the morning even before making my coffee is clean off the kitchen counters and pick up anything left in the living room. 

Her room and Rocky's (when he's home) room are a different story, but then again I can close their doors. 

 Of course, all day Thursday I was nervous because she was leaving.  Just worried that she's going to go backwards instead of forward. 

When she came to stay with us last year, she was not doing that great.  In the past year since she was going back and forth between us and my brother's, we noticed a great improvement.

She promises me she will eat properly and get out and walk, so we'll see.  She's still has all her faculties and can manage on her own, so off she goes.  Pete will continue to do her banking.  We got her a reliable cell phone that now works at our house and will work everywhere.  She let go of her land lines; in our house and her home in Henderson. 

She called when she got in Thursday night and she sounded happy.

I still think it would have been a lot easier for her if she moved here when we did, into her own house on our property.  Oh, well, that's just me!
